Our Methodology

This page explains how we evaluate software, how we handle affiliate relationships, and where we draw the line on editorial independence. The goal is simple: make the process visible so you can weigh our recommendations accordingly.

Who this site is for

We cover tools for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). Most articles are written with a 1–50 person team in mind. We skip enterprise-specific features unless they're directly relevant to SMB buyers, and we call out price points that stop being SMB-friendly.

How we pick products to cover

  • Category demand. We start with categories SMBs actively shop in (AI writing, CRM, customer support, SEO, project management).
  • Real market share. We cover tools people actually use, not just the ones with the largest affiliate payouts.
  • Fit for the niche. We skip tools clearly priced or designed for enterprise buyers, even when they'd be lucrative to review.

How we evaluate each product

Every review goes through the same checklist:

  1. Hands-on evaluation. We sign up, try the core workflow, and look at what a typical SMB buyer would actually use.
  2. Pricing scrutiny. We list real prices, not marketing blurbs. When a feature requires a higher tier, we say so.
  3. Honest weaknesses.Every review has a Weaknesses section. If we can't find real ones, we didn't look hard enough.
  4. Fit analysis. We tell you who the tool is for and who should skip it. Generic recommendations help nobody.

Our ratings

When we include a numeric rating on a review, it reflects our overall assessment on a 1–5 scale, weighted across usability, feature depth, SMB value, and pricing transparency. Ratings are calibrated within a category, so a 4.4 in email marketing means something specific to email marketing, not to software in general.

Affiliate relationships

Many of the tools we cover are affiliate partners, which means we earn a commission if you buy through our links. This is how the site sustains itself. Here's what we do to keep that from distorting our reviews:

  • We cover tools we don't earn from. If a tool is the right recommendation but we have no affiliate relationship, we still cover it.
  • We don't alter verdicts for commission size. Our ranking is not tied to payout. We'd rather recommend a $9/month tool with a modest commission than a $200/month tool with a bigger one if the former is the better fit.
  • We label relationships. Every article carries an affiliate disclosure. Links to affiliate partners carry rel="nofollow sponsored".
  • We flag pending or rejected programs. When we don't have an affiliate relationship with a vendor we cover, the CTA links to their homepage unmonetized, never to a third-party tracking URL that secretly substitutes a different product.

What we don't do

  • We don't publish paid placements dressed up as reviews.
  • We don't accept content from vendors. Every word on the site is written by us.
  • We don't use fake reviews, fabricated quotes, or AI-generated "expert" personas.

Keeping reviews current

Software changes fast. We refresh high-traffic reviews quarterly to reflect pricing changes, new features, and shifts in how the product compares to alternatives. Every article shows both its original publish date and the date of the last update.
